Frederick Tischer, an Old Musician,
Passes Away At a Ripe Old Age
In East Dubuque
~
Frederick Tischer died at his home in East Dubuque at 5 o’clock Sunday morning, aged 79 years. He had been ill for some time, and his death was not unexpected.

Mr. Tischer was born in Saxony, Germany and came to this country in 1852, residing two years in Newark, N. J., and in 1854 he came to Dubuque. He was a painter and did a great deal of work in this city. He was a splendid musician and was one of the original members of the old Germania Band. He could play on almost any kind of musical instrument. When the rebellion broke out, he with his two sons, Herman and Theodore went to the war with the band, which was attached to the Ninth Iowa Infantry, and remained until the close of the war. Later, when the Coronet Band was organized he became a member of it and played with it until two years ago.

He is survived by five children, three daughters and two sons. Mrs. John Hartig, Mrs. Schiebe, and Mrs. Rembold, Herman and Theodore. His wife and a daughter, Mrs. Peter Ginter preceded him in death.

Mr. Tischer was well and favorably known, and had many friends who will learn of his death with feelings of regret. He was one of the best musicians Dubuque ever had. He was an honest man and served his country faithfully and well.
