RESIDENT FOR HALF CENTURY IS CALLED
(Telegraph Herald April 5, 1917)
Michael Cain, for fifty years a resident of Dubuque, died Thursday morning at 3:30 at the family residence 631 Southern avenue. He had been confined to his room for three weeks. Death is attributed to the infirmities of old age.
Mr. Cain was born in Ireland eighty-five years ago. He came to the city in 1865 and lived here continuously since that time. For many years he was an authority on grain, buying wheat, oats, etc., for many of the prominent firms for years. He was last employed by J. J. Nagle. Mr Cain was a devoted follower of the Catholic religion and was known for being an especially upright and honest man. Honorable and industrious he was all that the name of husband and father could imply to his family. His wife preceded him in death five years ago. Four daughters, Mrs. F. A. Luhrs, of St. Paul, Mrs. Margaret Purcell, Mrs. Thomas Lee, and Miss Nellie, all of this city, also three sons Thomas, Bartley and Matt, of Dubuque, several grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren survive.
The funeral will be held Saturday morning to the cathedral and service and burial will take place at Mount Olivet.
