Mrs Michael Cain in Final Sleep
Death Occurs At Family Residence
Wednesday Evening At Seven-Fifteen
A Native Of County Galway
Had Lived In This City For
The Past Forty-Seven Years(Telegraph Herald Feb 22,1912 p 10)
The death of Mrs. Michael Cain removes one of the few remaining pioneers. The passing occurred at her home 631 Southern Avenue, Wednesday evening at a quarter past seven o’clock.
Mrs. Cain’s illness extended over the past three years, and was due in part to her advanced age. She was a native of County Galway, Ireland, being born there in 1840. Her marriage occurred there, and the young couple emigrated to this country forty-seven years ago and came directly to Dubuque.
She saw the growth of the city from a trading post to a modern city. Mrs. Cain was a life long and fervent member of the Catholic Church and since coming here was a member of the Cathedral parish.
Her life was a record of self-sacrifice and devotion to duty, one whose kindly deeds made her beloved by all.
Mrs. Cain leaves to mourn her death her husband, four daughters: Mrs. F. A. Luhrs of St. Paul, Minn, Mrs. Phillip Purcell and Mrs. Thomas Lee of this city, and three sons: Thomas, Matthew and Bartley.
The funeral will be held Saturday morning at nine o’clock to the Cathedral. The interment will be made at Mt. Olivet.
