Thursday evening at 8 o’clock,in his late home on Park Hill, occurred the death of Henry Blichmann, who was born in Schweidnitz (Schweldnitz) Sillsia, Germany, nearly sixty-eight years ago. He came to this country about the year 1864 and settled in Gallatenville, N.J. where he remained for four years. He then moved to Dubuque. Very soon after his arrival here he obtained employment with Thos. Connolly and has had continuous work in the latter’s factory since that time. Some months ago his strength began to fail and he could not labor with the his old time vigor, but to the honor of his employer he was not discharged, or made to feel that his days of usefulness were passed.
He had been a faithful member of Immanuel church for nearly thirty years and was one of the first to urge the erection of a new home of worship for this congregation. He has been honored by the church, having held the office of deacon for many years; also having been made a life member of the church building society by the church, and only last Easter of the American Tract society, of which the honored Gen. O. O. Howard is president, by Immanuel Sunday school. He has been true to his pastor, who deeply feels his loss, in all these years, and has always been ready to lend a helping hand or give a word of encouragement or cheer.
He is survived by his wife and four children, who were all at his bedside and received his last farewell ere death came. The children are Charles, John, and Mrs. Dunkley, of Dubuque, and Hermann of Terre Taute(sp.), Ind. He died as a Christian, at peace with God and man.
The burial will be from the home to Immanuel church at 2 p. m. Sunday afternoon.
