Alfred G. Birch

Services for Alfred G. Birch, 80, of 2540 Elm St. will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Church. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday at the DeWachter-Haudenshield Funeral Home, 2170 Central Ave., where the wake service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Mr. Birch died at 11:50 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph's unit, Mercy Health Center. He was born in North Buena Vista, Iowa, and had been a driver for Flynn Coal Co. for many year prior to his retirement.

Surviving are his wife, the former Adeline Waters; two daughters, Mrs. Richard (Rose Mary) Haskell of Dubuque and Mrs. James (Shirley ) Stecklein of Bernard, Iowa; a son, Alfred "Tom" of Dubuque, and 13 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.
