MOTHER OF W. FORETTE DEAD
~
FORMER RESIDENT OF COUNTY
EXPIRES AT ALTON
~
W. W. Forette, of Route No. 6, has been called to Alton, Iowa by the death of his mother Mrs. Johanna Forette, a former resident of this county, who passed away Thursday, Nov. 19.

The deceased whose maiden name was Johanna Frisch, was born at Reckingen, Luxembourg, Europe, Jan. 6, 1836. She came to America in 1845 and settled with her folks at St. Donatus, Jackson County, Iowa. She was married there to John Forette on the 21st day of October, 1855. For three years they made their home at Galena, Illinois, and for thirty years called Springbrook, Iowa, their home. It was there that her husband died on the 17th of February, 1881. Ten children were born to them, of whom four died in infancy and one was drowned a year ago last June in the Mississippi River. The latter catastrophe coming on Mrs. Forette in her old age broke her heart and she had not been well since. During the thirty years she called Springbrook her home she spent various short periods with her daughter in Alton. About eight and one half years ago she went there and stayed with Mrs. Scheckel for four and one half years and was well known to Alton people. In the Springbrook community she was noted as a woman who was ever ready to lend her aid in times of sickness and distress.

The living children in order of their ages are Mrs. Scheckel, of Alton; Jacob Forette, of Adrian, Minn.; Mrs. Mike Sptringer, of Springbrook, Will Forette, of Dubuque, and Mrs. William Portz, of Springbrook.

The funeral was held Monday morning at Alton.
