Lorita E. (Bailey) Hefel, 73, of Greeley, Iowa, died Monday, January 18, 2016 at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque, Iowa.

Friends and relatives of Lorita may call from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 23, at the Reiff Funeral Home in Epworth, Iowa. There will be no public services. Burial will be held in Immaculate Conception cemetery in North Buena Vista, Iowa at a later date.

She was born May 26, 1942 in Strawberry Point, Iowa, daughter of Hiram and Gladys (Whitlock) Pierce. She received her education in the rural Epworth area schools. On April 18, 1959 she was united in marriage to Carl A. "Carly" Hefel. She drove a school bus for the Western Dubuque School District for many years. She enjoyed children and loved to read.

She is survived by three children, Genevieve Hefel (and her spouse, Peggy Strub) of Dubuque, IA; Debra Hefel of French Town, IA, and Carl D. Hefel of Greely, IA; 4 grandchildren, Melissa Zittergruen, Erika Bandilla, Carly and Courtney Hefel; 2 great-grandchildren, Jasmine and Brady; 2 sisters, Vera Finzel (& Darwin Goeschel) and Donna (Mike) Loetz, both of Colesburg, IA; one brother-in-law, Dale Sweet, of Giard, IA; and one sister-in-law, Sandy Pierce, of Millville, IA.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Carl Hefel, on Oct. 8, 2000; 6 brothers, Robert "Bob", Bill, Thomas, Dick, Jerry and Perry Pierce; and 4 sisters, Myrtle Kruse, Martha Pierce in infancy, Jane Sweet and Jean Wall.
