The Telegraph Herald, Dubuque, February 5, 1940

John Broderick, 71, widely known Dubuque County farmer, died Monday morning at 6 o’clock following an illness of one week at the family farm home in Vernon Township near New Melleray Monastery.

The body will be transferred from the Hoffmann Mortuary Tuesday afternoon at 3 o’clock to the family home, from where the funeral will be held Thursday morning at 8:30 o’clock to the Holy Family Church in New Melleray. Burial will be in the Holy Family Cemetery.

Mr. Broderick was born in Key West June 18, 1868, son of the late Patrick and Bridget Broderick, and had been a lifelong resident of this vicinity. He engaged in farming all of his life.

He was a member of the Holy Family parish and the Holy Name Society of that church, and was also affiliated with the Farley Council of the Knights of Columbus.

Surviving with his wife, Mrs. Margaret Carr, are his daughter, Mrs. Glenn (Helen) McAndrew, and two grandsons.

Preceding him in death with his parents were two sisters and three brothers.
