For the Dubuque Herald

It becomes our painful duty to record the death of one of our most respected citizens, Casimere Arquitte died on Saturday at ten minutes before noon, at the early age 25 years. He was a young man of fine intellect; esteemed and respected by all who knew him. His father and family moved from Canada into the state of New York forty years ago. There the subject of our obituary was born. He came with his family into Dubuque some twenty years since, where, after arriving at a proper age, he learned the trade of stone cutter. The city was his early home and there he left numerous relatives and a legion of sympathizing friends to mourn his untimely end. He endured his sickness with Christian fortitude and resignation to the Divine Will, and departed this transient sphere fortified by the sacraments of the Catholic Church, of which he was a devout member. He was confined to the house for about two months and died of consumption, which started from a severe cold. As a testimonial to his worth, he was followed to the grave by the largest funeral cortege seen in Farley for years. All his relatives, clad in mourning, looked truly bereit. There was no burial service, as the clergy was absent attending some other call, but the family and friends, with true piety, repeated the prayers used on such occasions.

Rest, dear friend, free from toil and strife in the eternal mansions of bliss, while to thy memory his tribute is offered by thy friends.
GHERARDINO.
