PEOSTA, Iowa - Major Stuart M. Anderson, 44, of 16817 Thunder Hills Drive, Peosta, died Saturday, Jan. 7, 2006, as the result of injuries sustained in a helicopter crash in Iraq.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Peter Lutheran Church, 3200 Asbury Road, Dubuque, with the Rev. Merlin Schlichting officiating. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery, where military rites will be accorded by the soldiers of the Army Reserve 3d. COSCOM. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Hoffmann Schneider and Kitchen Funeral Home, 3860 Asbury Road.
Mr. Ander-son worked as a welder at Premier Tooling and Manufacturing, Peosta.
He was born on June 2, 1961, in Alexandria, Minn., son of Claremont and Nancy (Olson) Anderson. He married Tori Klingle on May 25, 1985, in Benson, Minn.
He graduated from Benson Senior High School in 1980, and North Dakota State University in 1985, with a bachelor of science in education.
Currently, he was a major in the Army Reserve serving a second tour of duty in Iraq. He enlisted in 1984 and was commissioned an officer in 1989.
His wife and children were the center of his life. His non-working hours were dedicated to his family.
Surviving are his wife, Tori Anderson, of Peosta; two daughters, Keely, age 14, and Kirsten, age 10, both at home; his parents, Claremont and Nancy Anderson, of Hoffman, Minn.; two brothers, Darren (Nancy) Anderson, of Keller, Texas, and Terry (Linda) Anderson, of Sun Prairie, Wis.; a sister, Jay Lee Leaf, of Litchfield, Minn.; a maternal grandmother, LaVon Olson, of Barrett, Minn.; and aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
A Major Stuart M. Anderson Memorial Fund has been established.

DUBUQUE (AP) - An Iowa soldier who died in a helicopter crash in Iraq earlier this month was remembered at funeral services Thursday.Maj. Stuart Anderson, 44, of Peosta, was on his second tour of duty in the Gulf region when the Army Black Hawk helicopter crashed on Jan. 7 in northern Iraq. Seven other U.S. soldiers and four civilians were also killed in the crash.
Anderson was a member of the Army Reserve's 3rd Corps Support Command in Des Moines. A welder, he would have been home this fall, his family has said.
Anderson's funeral was held at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Dubuque. His family requested that no media attend the services.
Anderson is survived by his wife, Tori, and daughters, Kirsten and Keely.
After his death, friends remembered Anderson as a family man who enjoyed his time as a soldier.
"He was very proud of being in the military," His father, Claremont Anderson, of Hoffman, Minn., said earlier this month.
Tim Showalter, principal of Drexler Middle School in Farley, knew Anderson as a parent active in his daughter's activities.
"He was an involved dad. You couldn't ask for a whole lot more" Showalter added.
