Mrs. Ruth M. Anderson, 90, of Luther Manor Nursing Home, formerly of 2509 Broadway St., died at 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 14, 2003, at The Finley Hospital, Dubuque.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Roselawn Chapel at Dennis Kitchen Funeral Home, 3860 Asbury Road, where friends may call after 9:30 p.m. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery.

She was born on Nov. 25, 1912, in Big Springs, Minn., daughter of the Rev. Albert Johan Gottlieb and Helena Johanna Wilhelmina Fredericka (Schumacher) Daugs. She married Christian Anderson, from Oelwein, Iowa, on April 12, 1936, in Monona; he preceded her in death on Oct. 12, 1981.

She was the tenth of 11 children, six girls and five boys, and the last surviving child of Albert and Helena.

She worked as an elementary school teacher in the Dubuque Community School District from 1956 to 1978, primarily as a kindergarten teacher at Fulton Elementary School.

She grew up in Iowa and attended Monona Public Schools from elementary through two years of high school. She attended Wartburg Academy in Waverly, Iowa, from 1928 to 1930. In 1932, she graduated from Wartburg Normal College with a diploma from the Junior College Normal Course.

The family moved to Dubuque in 1942, where Ruth graduated from the University of Dubuque, with a bachelor of science degree in elementary education.

She did volunteer work for The Finley Hospital as well as the American Red Cross Blood Bank. She was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, where she was the organist from 1942 to 2000.

Ruth enjoyed the company of her family, her flower gardens and especially her music.

Surviving are a daughter, Julia Helen (Daniel) Betts, of Boone, Iowa; two sons, Christian (Sandra) Anderson III, of Dubuque, and Eric J. (Laurie) Anderson, of Englewood, Colo.; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers; and five sisters.

A Ruth M. Anderson Memorial Fund has been established by the family.
