DURANGO, Iowa - Richard F. Albert, 73, of 20005 Klein Lane, Durango, died at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, March 27, 2008, at home, surrounded by his family, after a long and courageous battle with lung cancer.

A remembrance will be from 1 to 2 p.m. today at Mueller Memorial Chapel at Linwood Cemetery, where military rites will be accorded by American Legion Dubuque Post 6. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery. Behr Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

He was born on Jan. 20, 1935, in Dubuque, son of William Earl and Solome J. (Stallman) Albert.

Dick served in the Army in Korea during the Korean Conflict, and he was a member of the American Legion Dubuque Post 6.

He married Cheryl A. Rogers on Oct. 20, 1962, in Dubuque.

Dick was a dedicated, hard worker, devoted to supporting all those he loved.

Passionate in all he did, his grandchildren were the center of his world and the light of his life.

Surviving are his wife, Cheryl A. Albert, of Durango; children, Tina L. (Mike) Christ, of Dixon, Ill., and Keith R. Albert, of Rickardsville; grandchildren, Jennifer and Andrew Christ, Justin Husemann, Briana and Becca Albert; two brothers, Bob Albert and Glenn (Mary) Albert, both of Dubuque; a sister, Janette (Jack) Close, of Dubuque; and nieces and nephews

He was preceded in death by a son, Richard "Richy" Albert, Jr.; his parents; three brothers; and three sisters.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Dubuque Chapter of the American Cancer Society, 2197 University Ave., Suite B, Dubuque, Iowa 52001.
