Robert J. Courtney, 2196 Seminary, died at the Mercy hospital last night at 6:15 o’clock.
The remains are lying in state at the Bennett-Ashworth funeral residence, 679 Bluff Street, from where the funeral will be held tomorrow morning to St. Anthonys’ church at 9 o’clock. Interment will be made in Mt. Olivet cemetery.
Mr. Courtney, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Edward Courtney, pioneers of the community, was born on a farm near Julien, December 18, 1874, and was married August 11, 1909 to Frances Walker, who with two daughters, Misses Lucy and Ellen, two sons, Robert and Walker; three brothers, Daniel, Dubuque, William, Waterloo, and John, St. Louis, and a sister, Mrs. Frances Nevins, this city, survives him.
He was a Catholic, a member of St. Anthony’s church and in his last hour he was comforted by the rites of that religion. (Dubuque Telegraph-Herald, January 16, 1929)
