Daniel Courtney, 70, passed away at 9 o’clock Thursday morning at the residence, 389 South Grandview avenue. Although Mr. Courtney had been ailing for some months, his death was unexpected.
He was born in Dubuque and for many years resided on a farm near Julien, later returning to the city. He is survived by his widow, one sister, Mrs. Frances Nevins, this city and two brothers, John B., St. Louis, and William T. Courtney, Waterloo. A daughter, Maldred, preceded him in death some years ago.
Mr. Courtney was a member of the Holy Name society, the Sacred Heart league of St. Columbkille’s parish and of the Marquette court C.O.F. His sudden passing came as a distinct shock to his host of friends who admired him for his genial and sterling character.
The funeral will be held Saturday morning from the residence to St. Columbkille’s church at 9 o’clock. Interment will be made in Mt. Olivet cemetery. (Dubuque Telegraph-Herald, about June 30, 1932)
