John T. Lane Dies Tuesday Night From Injuries Cascade, Ia., April 22 -- Special: Injuries received Monday evening when he fell down a flight of steps at his home caused the death of John T. Lane, 78, Tuesday night at 11:45 o'clock. Mr. Lane was enfeebled by an illess of several months' duration and retired early Monday evening. Shortly later his family heard him walking about the upstairs rooms and before any could get to his assistance he had lost his balance and fell down the steps. He suffered from concussions to the brain and other injuries in the fall.

The funeral will be held Friday morning from the residence to St. Martins' church at Cascade where the mass of requiem will be read at 9 o'clock by REv. J.J. Leen of Fillmore.

Mr. Lane was a son of the later Mr. and Mrs. Patrick D. Lane, peioneer settlers in the southwest end of the county and was born on a farm in Whitewater township July 16, 1852. He was married at St. Martin's church to Eleanor Lavin, Sept. 11, 1878 by the later Rev. John Hennessey. For many years he lived on the Lane farm in Whitewater township and then moved to a farm in Richland township in Jones county. In 1924 he retired and moved to Cascade.

He is survived by his widow; two sons, James and Albert, Cascade; five daughters, Mrs. R.W. Bisenius and Miss Olive, Cascade; Mrs. E.S. White, Eldora, and the Misses Mayme and Loyola, Pontiac, Mich.; one brother J.P. Lane, Cascde, one sister, Mrs. Honora Donahue, Dubuque; and seven grandchildren. Two daughters, Mrs. Al Kelchen and Miss Anna, and three sons, John, Luke and Joseph, preceded him in death.

Dubuque Telegraph Herald and Times Journal, Sunday 26 Apr 1931 Cascade, Ia., April 25 -- Special: The funeral of John T. Lane was held from his home in East Cascade to St. Martin's church Friday morning, where a mass of requiem was sung by Very Rev. Thomas Rooney. Rev. J.J. Murtaugh of Eldora and Rev. B.L. White of Ames were in the sanctuary. The funeral was largely attended. The casket was supported by William Hosch, Matt Bisenius, J.J. Ramm, J.L. Fober, John O'Brien, Joseph Kenneally, Joseph Knepper and John Manternach. Interment was made in St. Martin's cemetery. Prayers at the graveside were read by Very Rev. Thomas Rooney, assisted by Revs. White and Murtaugh.
