LT. (JG) Robert l. Brooks
Services for Lt. (JG) Robert L. Brooks, son of Mr. and Mrs. Mr. E. Brooks, who was killed Apr. 2, 1945, in an air attack off of Okinawa, were held at 3:30 P.M. Saturday from the Eglehof Funeral Home.
The Rev. Samuel George, of the University of Dubuque, officiated at the services and at the burial in Linwood Cemetery.
Lt. Brooks body arrived in Dubuque Friday afternoon, officially escorted by Lt. (JG) W. Stanford Foultz, M. C. USNR, and was met by the American legion color guard were Don Birkett, Lewis Driscoll, Ken Kimberlin, Frank Lucas and John Nelson.
Military honors were accorded at the graveside by the American Legion, under command of Allen Kane. The Rev. Fred Landdeck was chaplain and Harold Nachtman, Jr. was bugler. A color guard was composed of Louis Schloz, James W. Otto, Eldo Block and Clarence Hagge. Firing squad members, commanded by Francis J. Kelly were Elmer L. Thompson, Robert L. Didesch, John Jungblut, Leo J. Chambers and W. E. Schaefer.
Pallbearers were Ray Hartz, LaVerne Gibson, Richard Dewey, Robert Lungwitz, and Dr. Lawrence Foster, and John J. Cody.
