HOPKINTON, Iowa -- Jeryl Kaye Bacon, 69, of Hopkinton, died in the arms of her husband Monday morning, Oct. 24, 2011, with her family at her side, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 28, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Monticello. Interment will be in the Hopkinton Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27, at Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello.

Jeryl Kaye Lehmann was born on Oct. 5, 1942, at John McDonald Hospital, Monticello, daughter of Earl F. and Celena Stahlberg Lehmann. She graduated from the Monticello Community Schools with the class of 1960.

She and Charles J. were married on Nov. 5, 1960. The couple lived in Maquoketa and Monticello before moving to Florida in 1962. They moved to Hopkinton in 1967. For 51 years, they were partners in life, love and business, owning multiple family ventures too numerous to mention. They were currently operating C.J. Bacon and Sons, Bacon Recycling and Triple C Convenience Store.

Jeryl was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church in Hopkinton. She was baptized, confirmed and married at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Monticello. She still is well known for her enthusiasm in organizing and preparing the chicken and beef dinners for her church, St. John Lutheran in Hopkinton.

Jeryl lived for her children and grandchildren and her goal in life was to keep Chuck on the straight and narrow. She will be greatly missed.

Surviving are her husband Charles J.; four children, Crystal (Scott) Sternhagen, Charles F. (Joy) Bacon and Curt (Valerie) Bacon, all of Hopkinton, and Callie (Lonny) Sternhagen, of Delhi; 13 grandchildren, Jacquelyn (Brock), Ashley (Leon), Dustin, Katie Lynn, Rick (Wendi), Randy (Brooke), Andrew, Amy, Alecia, Samantha, Jeremy, Tyler and Jada Lynn; and six siblings, John F. (Betsy) Reid Jr., of San Antonio, Lorna (Richard) Davis, Janis (Doug) Toenjes and Junelle (Jim) Benter, all of Monticello, Lyda (Steve) DeShaw, of Amber, and LaVerle (Dennis) Kyarsgaard, of Sterling, Ill.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Dennis Earl.
