Joseph Sibel, 46, of Hopkinton, died Sunday, June 8, 2008, at Jones Regional Medical Center, Anamosa, following a sudden illness. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello, where friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Pastor Mona Burns will officiate at the services.

Surviving are his fiancee, Sherry Morgan; two sons, Michael and Brian, and Sherry's children, Samantha and Courtney Kay, all of Hopkinton; his mother, Donna Sibel, brother, Mike Sibel, and a nephew, David, all of Philadelphia, Pa.

Joseph Anthony Sibel was born April 28, 1962, in Philadelphia, Pa., the son of Joseph and Donna Cronkite Sibel. Joe received his education in the Philadelphia school system. He enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served for 20 years. He was an electronics repair technician for fighter aircraft. During the first gulf war he served on the Air Craft Carrier U.S.S. Americana. Following his retirement from the Navy, Joe relocated to the Hopkinton area and started working for Star Building Systems in Monticello. He was the maintenance supervisor at Star. He also assisted other businesses and people in the area with computer problems.

Joe loved to spend time with his family and friends and enjoyed deer hunting. He still kept in touch with his Philadelphia roots by watching the Eagles and Flyers.
