DURANGO, Iowa - James G. "Jim" Steffen, 56, of 19642 Asbury Road, Durango, died at 2:10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 19, 2004, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Clement's Catholic Church, Bankston, with the Rev. Dennis Cain officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery, where there will be a flag presentation by the American Legion, Farley Post 656. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. today at Reiff Funeral Home, Epworth, where there will be a wake service at 7:30 p.m. Friends also may call after 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Mr. Steffen worked at John Deere Dubuque Works.

He was born on Feb. 13, 1948, in Dubuque, son of Nicholas and Ardell (Higley) Steffens. He was a graduate of Western Dubuque High School in Epworth.

He was an Air Force veteran, having served in Vietnam.

He was a member of St. Clement's Parish, Bankston, and a member of EAA Chapter 327 of Dubuque.

Surviving are a son, Kevin Steffen, of Dubuque; his mother, Ardell Steffens, of Durango; five brothers, Robert Steffens, of Dubuque, John Steffens and Paul Steffen, both of Durango, Tom (Cindy) Steffens, of Peosta, and Daniel (Laurie) Steffens, of Sherrill; a sister, Sandra (Charles) Moreland, of Peosta; his former wife, Jean Steffen, of Dubuque; and 11 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Nicholas Steffens, on Aug. 2, 2004.
