Roger J. Connolly, 76, of 1940 Ungs St., died at 5:10 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2006, at The Finley Hospital, Dubuque, of natural causes.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church. Burial will be in Holy Family Cemetery, New Melleray, rural Peosta, Iowa, where military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Dubuque Post 6. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., where there will be a parish wake service at 3 p.m.

Mr. Connolly began working at Celotex in Dubuque. He joined the Marines in 1951 and served in Korea, where he was injured in action. He returned to Dubuque in 1953 and returned to work at Celotex, retiring in 1982 after 35 years.

He was born on Nov. 19, 1929, in Dubuque, son of William J. and Marion C. (Kraker) Connolly.

Roger attended St. Raphael's School and later graduated from Loras Academy in 1949.

He married Alvina E. Berendes on Aug. 9, 1958, at St. Raphael's Cathedral, Dubuque. After his retirement from Celotex, he worked as a delivery driver for Hartig's and for Loras College in maintenance until his retirement in 1996.

Roger was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, AmVets, and the American Legion Dubuque Post 6. He was an accomplished woodworker and enjoyed playing cards with family and friends.

Surviving are his wife, Alvina E. Connolly; a daughter, Peggy M. Connolly, of Dubuque; a son, Patrick J. (Kathy) Connolly, of Dubuque; a granddaughter, Nicole A. Connolly, of Dubuque; two sisters, Mary (Ron) Hagensten, of West Palm Beach, Fla., and Carol (Don) Lambert, of Dubuque; a special niece, Suzie (Jim) Bausch; several nieces and nephews; and an aunt, Olive Kraker, of Dubuque.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Hospice of Dubuque, 2255 Kennedy Road, Dubuque, Iowa 52002.
