Myrtle "Myrt" Connolly, 92, of Luther Manor, formerly of 15927 Prairie Creek Road, Peosta, Iowa, departed from this life to her heavenly home at 6:15 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2006.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Holy Family Catholic Church, New Melleray, rural Peosta, with the Rev. Xavier Dieter OCSO and the Rev. Richard W. Kuhn officiating. Burial will be in Holy Family Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Hoffmann-Schneider Funeral Home, 1640 Main St., where there will be a wake service at 3:30 p.m.

She was born on Aug. 25, 1914, in Otter Creek, Iowa, daughter of James and Anna (Slattery) Crane. She married Harold Connolly on Feb. 14, 1942, at Nativity Catholic Church, Dubuque; he preceded her in death on Feb. 28, 1994.

She was raised in Dubuque and graduated from Nativity Grade School, the former Visitation Academy and Mercy Hospital School of Nursing. She did private duty in hospitals and private homes.

She was a member of Holy Family parish, their Rosary Society, Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Women, Visitation Academy Alumnae and Mercy School of Nursing Alumnae.

Myrt loved her family, friends, gardening, cooking, shopping, reading, writing, and baking treats to give away. She was a woman who loved to go.

Myrt was an Irish woman of quiet strength, wit, devoted to her faith and strong belief in prayer.

She leaves her beloved children, Robert J. (Mary Ann), of Denver, Mary Ellen, of Peosta, and William M. (friend Deb), of Hudson, Wis.; three granddaughters, Cherie (Rich) Graddy, of Atlanta, Lori, of Littleton, Colo., and Julie, of Atlanta; two great-granddaughters, Dominika Connolly and Kenna Graddy; a sister, Lucille Hillard, of Dubuque; two sisters-in-law, May Catherine Connolly, of Cascade, and Irene Casey, of Dubuque.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Maurine Beschen; and four brothers-in-law, Leo Beschen, Joe Connolly, Melvin Casey and Cy Hillard.

In lieu of flowers, a Myrtle Connolly Memorial Fund will be established.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Mercy Medical Center and Luther Manor for all their kindness and concern. Also Dr. Andrea Ries and Dr. Bruce Abele for their care of mom; and to all caregivers at home, Marie, Mary Ellen B, Phyllis, Leslie and Melissa, a special thank you. A thank you to Hospice of Dubuque for bringing comfort and dignity to mom's final days.
