BERNARD, Iowa - Maurice "Bubbie" Connolly, 90, of 16750 Callahan Road, Bernard, died at 9:35 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012, surrounded by his family at Shady Rest Care Center, Cascade.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, at Holy Family Catholic Church, New Melleray, Peosta, with the Rev. Michael Podhajsky and the Rev. Xavier Deiter officiating. Burial will be in Holy Family Cemetery. Friends may call after 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the church. Reiff Funeral Home, Cascade, is in charge of arrangements.

Maurice was born on Dec. 31, 1921, in Bernard, son of John and Anna (Healy) Connolly. He received his education in the rural Bernard schools.

On May 21, 1946, he was united in marriage to Joan Donovan. The couple built their farm on the original Connolly land where they lived and farmed all their lives. His hobby was raising and riding horses.

Maurice was a member of Holy Family Parish in New Melleray, Peosta, where he was baptized and worshiped his whole life. He also was a member of the Dubuque County Farm Bureau and the Dubuque County Saddle Club.

Surviving are his wife, Joan Connolly, of Cascade; three children, Justin (Annette) Connolly, of Peosta, Judi (Dwain) Connolly-Trenkamp, of Maquoketa, and Jerry (Mary Jo) Connolly, of North Richland Hills, Texas; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ann Connolly, of Dubuque.

He was preceded in death by a son, Jeff Connolly, in August 1980; his parents; two brothers, Justin Connolly in infancy and John "Jack" Connolly; and two sisters, Marie and Helen.

The family request no flowers or plants. Memorials may be given to Hospice of Dubuque and Holy Family Catholic Church, New Mellary.
