BERNARD, Iowa - John P. "Jack" Connolly, 79, 16571 Twelve Mile Road, Bernard, died at 2:55 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 26, 1998, at Mercy Health Center St. Joseph's Unit, Dubuque.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Holy Family Catholic Church, Rural Route Peosta, with burial in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. at Ed Siegert-Al Didesch Colonial Funeral Home, 390 N. Grandview Ave., where there will be a scripture wake service at 6 p.m.

Mr. Connolly farmed his entire life in Bernard.

He was born on Nov. 10, 1919, in Bernard, son of John and Annie (Haley) Connolly. He married Mary Ruth Spahn on Feb. 4, 1946, in Preston.

He enjoyed horses, farming, playing cards, his children, grandchildren and friends.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Ruth, of Bernard; two sons, John (Janet) Connolly and Jim (Tammy) Connolly, both of Bernard; two daughters, Jane (Francis) Merges, of Peosta, and Ruth (Phil) McDonald, of Pleasanton, Calif.; 11 grandchildren, Patrick, Kelly, Lori, Julie, Tom, Tim, Jenna, Abby, Oliva, Joe and Katie; a sister, Ann Connolly, of Dubuque; and a brother, Maurice "Bubbie" (JoAnne) Connolly, of Bernard.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Helen and Marie; and a brother, Justin.

A John P. Connolly Memorial Fund has been established.
