Services for Mrs. Herbert C. (Mabel V.) Odefey, 81, of ManorCare Health Systems, formerly of 2815 Davenport St., will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Holy Ghost Catholic Church.

Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., where there will be a wake service at 4:30 p.m.

Mrs. Odefey was employed at St. Dominic's Villa for 10 years, retiring in 1982.

She was born on June 16, 1915, in Peosta, Iowa, daughter of William C. and Elizabeth (Ryan) Brown. She married Herbert C. Odefey on Sept. 29, 1936, at Holy Family Catholic Church, New Melleray, rural Peosta.

She was a member of Holy Ghost Parish and its rosary society. Mabel enjoyed reading, embroidery, baby-sitting and visiting with her grandchildren.

Surviving are her husband, Herbert C. Odefey; four daughters, MaryLou (Don) Schemmel, of Bloomington, Minn., Jan (Jerry) Deutmeyer, of Dubuque, Donna (Jim) Hosier, of Fresno, Calif., and Debbie (Jeff) Hurd, of Liberty, Mo.; four sons, Bill (Barb) Odefey, of Dubuque, Jim (Paula) Odefey, of Red Oak, Iowa, and Jerry (Mary) Odefey and Gary (Nancy) Odefey, both of Dubuque; 30 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Marie Brown and Eileen Tuegel, and a brother, Eldon Brown, all of Dubuque.

She was preceded in death by a son, Ron Odefey, in March 1991; a grandson, Donald Schemmel Jr.; a son-in-law, Gary Wieser; two sisters, Mrs. Charles (Margaret) Vogel and Mrs. Michael (Elizabeth) Martin; and two brothers, Louis and Raymond Brown.

Memorials may be given to Holy Ghost Catholic Church.
