Eileen R. Bresee, 85, of Heritage Manor, formerly of Mount Pleasant Home and 2273 Southway Drive, died at 9:55 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 3, 2009, at Heritage Manor after a long battle with cancer.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6, at Holy Ghost Church, 2921 Central Ave., where friends may call after 9:30 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Holy Family Cemetery, Peosta, Iowa. The Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., is in charge of arrangements.

She was born on April 7, 1924, in Peosta, Iowa, daughter of Bart F. And Lucy M. (Tench) Meyer. She married Richard H. Bresee on Nov. 28, 1944, in Dubuque; he preceded her in death on Dec. 15, 1980.

Eileen was employed at Dubuque Stamp and Blue Ribbon Foods.

She was a member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church and a longtime member of the Dubuque Arboretum. Eileen was an active volunteer for many places in Dubuque. She also was an advocate at Heritage Manor for several years.

In her spare time, Eileen enjoyed reading and crocheting.

Surviving are two sisters, Teresa Pluym, of Dubuque, and Armella Grassel, of Bastrop, Texas; three brothers, Jerome "Jerry" Meyer, of Dubuque, Robert (Joyce) Meyer, of Macon, Mo., and John (Marian) Meyer, of Dubuque; and many nieces and nephews.

She also was preceded in death by two sisters, one in infancy and Alice Mootz; two brothers, one in infancy and Mark Meyer; and a sister-in-law, Anita Meyer.
