Services for John G. Bergfeld, 63, 14101 Old Highway Road, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church.

Burial will be in Holy Family Cemetery, Peosta, Iowa. Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m. today at Ed Siegert-Al Didesch Colonial Funeral Home, 390 N. Grandview Ave., where there will be a parish wake service at 3 p.m.

Mr. Bergfeld enjoyed a lifetime of farming.

He was born March 31, 1933, in Delhi, Iowa, son of John F. and Veronica (Jaeger) Bergfeld. He died at 3:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 24, 1996, at Mercy Health Center St. Joseph's Unit, Dubuque, due to a massive stroke.

John married Shirley Siegert on Oct. 11, 1955, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Dubuque.

The last 10 years of John's life were made possible because of a heart transplant on Feb. 11, 1986.

He was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, the Dubuque County Farm Bureau, the Dubuque County Fair tractor pull committee and the Second Chance For Life Foundation.

Surviving are his wife, Shirley; two sons, Ron (Sue) Bergfeld, of Des Moines, and Ken (Jan) Bergfeld, of rural Dubuque; a daughter, Barb (Jim) White, of Asbury, Iowa; seven granddaughters, Jennifer, Cristy, Cindy, Lisa, and Hannah Bergfeld, and Stacy and Jill White; three sisters, Gladys Kress, of Epworth, Iowa, Theresa (Clem) Gansemer, of Rickardsville, Iowa, and Juliann (Elmer) Schuman, of Dyersville, Iowa; three brothers, Edwin (Juanita) Bergfeld, of Cascade, Iowa, George (Joann) Bergfeld, of Peosta, Iowa, and Danny (Rita) Bergfeld, of Bernard, Iowa; and a brother-in-law, Joe Dolanc, of Farley, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Veronica Bergfeld; and one sister, Darlene Dolanc; and a grandson, Alan John Bergfeld.

A John G. Bergfeld Memorial Fund has been established.
