BERNARD, Iowa - William C. "Hoss" Bergfeld, 62, 18075 Route 151, Bernard, died at 7:15 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, 1998, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. today at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Fillmore, with burial in the church cemetery. The Reiff Funeral Home, Cascade, is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Bergfeld farmed all of his life in the rural Bernard area.

He was born on July 12, 1936, in Bernard, son of Albert and Anna (Freking) Bergfeld. He married Margaret Schiffer on Sept. 3, 1956, at Assumption Catholic Church, Sylvia Switch.

He received his education in the country schools in the Bernard area. He was a member of Sacred Heart Parish, Fillmore, and the Cascade Knights of Columbus-Council 930.

Surviving are his wife, Margaret Bergfeld, of Bernard; four sons, Randy (Wendy) Bergfeld, of Cascade, and Gary, Wayne and Dean Bergfeld, all of Peosta; two daughters, Cindy (Richard) Kirby and Penny (Mark) Schiltz, both of Peosta; six grandchildren; a sister, Myrtle Mae McAlisster,of Dubuque; and two brothers, Francis Bergfeld, of East Dubuque, Ill., and Charles Bergfeld, of Peosta.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a grandson, Travis Bergfeld, on March 9, 1993.

A William C. Bergfeld Memorial Fund has been established in lieu of flowers.
