Donald D. Butler, 88, of 2095 Ogilby Road, died Thursday, Feb. 10, 2005, at Luther Manor.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Hoffmann Schneider and Kitchen Funeral Home, 3860 Asbury Road, with the Rev. Greg Bjornstad officiating. Burial will be in the Asbury (Iowa) Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

He was born on Feb. 1, 1917, in Dubuque County, son of Dan and Sarah (Coates) Butler.

He attended the one-room Derby Grange School through the eighth grade.

He married Lucille Luchsinger on June 22, 1937, in the midst of the Great Depression. They started their life together working on the family farm. Over the years, Don was an insurance adjuster in the state of Iowa and later was a livestock feed sales manager. After retiring, he raised cattle for a time and eventually came to live in Dubuque. Lucille died on June 29, 2001, after 64 years of marriage.

He was a member of Grand View United Methodist Church and the Farm Bureau of Iowa.

Don was an avid card player, always ready for a spirited game of euchre.

Surviving are three children, Burton (Ellen) Butler, Janice (Robert) Miller and Dean (Patti) Butler, all of Dubuque; a son-in-law, Richard (Laurie) Anderson, of Dubuque; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and seven nieces and nephews.

He also was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Jeanette Anderson; and a sister, Dorothy (Butler) Kuntz.

Memorials may be given to Hospice of Dubuque and Luther Manor.

The family wishes to extend a special thank-you to the caring, compassionate people of both of these organizations, as well as Dr. Paulson and his staff.
