Luella C. (Freiburger) Cogan 1926-2013

Luella C. Cogan, 87, of Dubuque, passed away Sunday, Dec. 29, 2013, at home.

Friends may greet the family from 2 to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 3, at Hoffmann Schneider and Kitchen Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 3860 Asbury Road, where there will be a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, at Resurrection Catholic Church. The Rev. Gary Mayer will officiate.

Luella was born Aug. 27, 1926, in Rickardsville, daughter of Louis and Margaret (Hess) Freiburger. She married Donald Cogan on Aug. 21, 1945, in Rickardville.

In her younger years, Luella was employed at the Battery Factory and at Caradco.

She was a member of Resurrection Parish.

Luella enjoyed playing cards, bingo, singing and playing the guitar. She was an excellent cook and loved to bake. Luella and Don grew a large garden every year and sold their vegetables at the Dubuque Farmers Market for 38 years. She loved to tend the garden and enjoyed the people she met at the farmers market. Luella dearly loved her family, especially her grandchildren.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 68 years, Donald, of Asbury, Iowa; her children, Lou Ann (Stan) Ward, of Asbury, Eugene "Geno" Cogan, of East Dubuque, Ill., Karen Cogan, of Des Moines, and Beverly (Jerry) Eklund, of Casper, Wyo.; her grandchildren, Carrie Ann Russell, Stacey (Michael) Beaupre, Chasity Eklund, and Brittney Eklund; her great-grandchildren, Jocelyn Ward, Malyssa Beaupre, and Lexus Beaupre; and her sister, Modesta "Nets" Koeperich, of Epworth, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents and seven siblings.

Memorials may be made to the Luella Cogan Memorial Fund.
