DYERSVILLE, Iowa - LaVena E. (Besler) Becker, 82, of Dyersville, died Sunday, April 21, 1996, at Oak Crest Manor, Dyersville.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville, with burial in the church cemetery. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Tuesday at Kramer Funeral Home, Dyersville, where there will be a Catholic Daughters of the Americas rosary at 4 p.m. and a parish scripture service at 7:30 p.m.

Mrs. Becker was born on July 24, 1913, in Worthington, daughter of Frank and Margaret (Gudenkauf) Besler. She married Leander Becker on Feb. 14, 1933, in St. Paul Catholic Church, Worthington. They farmed south of Dyersville until their retirement in 1979.

She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas and Mercy Health Center Auxiliary, St. Mary's Unit, Dyersville, where she was a volunteer. She also was a volunteer at Oak Crest Manor and a former 4-H leader and teacher's assistant.

Surviving are two daughters, Rose Mary Dettbarn, of Earlville, and Grace (George) Menke, of Dyersville; a son, Gerald "Jerry" (Kathy) Becker, of Earlville; 11 grandchildren, a step-granddaughter, 13 great-grandchildren and a step-great-grandchild; and a sister-in-law, Frances Besler, of Farley.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leander Becker on April 18, 1979; three children, Louis, Norma Jean and James in infancy; three grandchildren, Tim Menke, David Ross Dettbarn and Lisa Hunt; a great-granddaughter, Leigha Wiegand; a son-in-law, Lloyd Dettbarn; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Frank Besler and Urban and Margene Besler.
