Sister Alberta (Albertilla) Bahl, OSF, 85, of Holy Family Hall Infirmary, 3340 Windsor Ave., died after an illness with cancer at 6:35 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18, 1996, at the infirmary.

A Mass of Christian burial will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Mount St. Francis Convent Chapel, with burial in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7:30 p.m. today at the convent, 3390 Windsor Ave., where there will be a wake service at 7:30 p.m. The Dennis Kitchen Funeral Home, 3860 Asbury Road, is in charge of arrangements.

Sister Alberta spent 47 years teaching at Holy Ghost, Sacred Heart and Holy Trinity in Dubuque and in Bode and Remsen, Iowa. She also taught at Corpus Christi in Chicago and Melrose Park, Ill., and ministered to the aging in Niles, Ill. From 1963-71 she worked in Portland, Ore. She had lived at Holy Family Hall at Mount St. Francis since 1994.

She was born Feb. 20, 1911, in Dubuque, daughter of George and Mary (Heinz) Bahl.

She entered the Sisters of St. Francis on Aug. 15, 1929, and made her final profession of vows on Aug. 10, 1935.

Surviving are two brothers, Wilfred "Bill" (and Jeanette) Bahl and Eldon "Bub" (and Loretta) Bahl, both of Asbury, Iowa; three sisters-in-law, Marie (Mrs. Joseph) Bahl, of Asbury, Maelo (Mrs. Andrew) Bahl, of Galesburg, Ill., and Priscilla (Mrs. Ed) Bahl, of Cascade, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; five sisters, Ida Bahl, Marie Keller, Sister Marie George, OP, Irene Bahl and Marian Ready; and five brothers, Joseph, Clarence, Andrew, George Jr. and V. Edgar Bahl.

Memorials may be given to the Sisters of St. Francis at Mount St. Francis Convent.
