Mrs. Frank H. (Hilda M.) Bahl, 91, of Heritage Manor, formerly of Balltown, Iowa, died at 8:35 a.m. Friday, Feb. 5, 1999, at Heritage Manor.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, with burial in St. Francis Cemetery, Balltown. Friends may call from 3 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., where there will be a parish wake service at 4:30 p.m.

Mrs. Bahl taught private music lessons for more than 35 years. She also farmed with her husband in the Rickardsville and Balltown areas.

She was born on Oct. 2, 1907, in Holy Cross, daughter of Peter J. and Mary (Schneider) Maiers. She married Frank H. Bahl on June 2, 1936, at Nativity Catholic Church, Dubuque; he died March 29, 1987.

She received her teaching certificate from the St. Louis School of Music. She was a 4-H leader for more than 20 years. She was a member of Holy Ghost Parish, and its rosary society and the ACCW. She also was an RSVP volunteer and was presented the Governors Award for Volunteerism in 1997. Hilda loved to go fishing and was always ready to play a good game of euchre.

Surviving are a daughter, Mary Lou (Jim) Baal, of Sherrill, Iowa; three sons, John F. "Jack" (Arlene) Bahl, of Sherrill, Allen M. Bahl, of Sageville, Iowa, Keith L. (Jane) Bahl, of Durango, Iowa; eight grandchildren, Rick (Karen) Bahl, Cindy (Ken) Behnke, Rusty Bahl, Sue Bahl, Shawn Bahl, Carrie (Don) Miller, Brian Bahl and Erin Bahl; and 10 great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Helen Maiers, of Dubuque.

She was preceded in death by two grandsons, Randy Bahl and James Wesley Baal II; a sister, Mrs. Francis (Leona) Jochum; three brothers, Clarence, Alphonse "Jess" and Louis Maiers; and a foster brother, Kenny Neilly.

Memorials may be given to Hospice of Dubuque, 3448 Hillcrest Road, Dubuque, Iowa 52002.
