David C. "Heintz" Bahl 1935-2004

David C. "Heintz" Bahl, 68, of 2317 Maplewood Drive, Asbury, Iowa, died Sunday, Jan. 11, 2004, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Resurrection Catholic Church, Dubuque. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Dubuque, where military rites will be accorded by the Dubuque Marine Corps League and the Tri-State Vietnam Veterans Association. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home, 2659 Kennedy Road, where there will be a wake service at 3 p.m.

Mr. Bahl worked as diesel engineer-operating engineer at Fondell Excavating for more than 25 years. After leaving Fondell, he worked for a few years at Continental Grain as a mechanic. He eventually retired from Stewart Construction, after working there for more than 10 years.

He was born on Jan. 24, 1935, in Dubuque, son of Clarence and Ida (Ehrlich) Bahl. He married Shirley L. Schubert on Oct. 1, 1955, in Dubuque.

He was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles.

He enjoyed spending time with his brother, Phil, at the sawmill in Graf, Iowa.

Dave was a wonderful husband, excellent father and grandfather and has touched many lives during his time with us. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Surviving are his wife, Shirley L. Bahl, of Asbury; five children, Tonia (Edward) Furry, of Epworth, Iowa, Deborah (Mark) Studelska, of Farley, Iowa, Douglas (Kari) Bahl, of Peosta, Iowa, Jolene (Jeffrey) Zimmerman, of East Dubuque, Ill., and David L. (Jamie) Bahl, of Dubuque; seven grandchildren, Amanda, Holly, Gregory, Daniel, Logan, Felicia and Jordan; two great-grandchildren, Andrew and Ian; two brothers, Philip (Elizabeth) Bahl, of Dubuque, and Dan (Ruby) Bahl, of Fort Madison, Iowa; three sisters, Dorothy Camfield and Margery Temple, both of Madison, Wis., and Mary Ann (John) Hansen, of Asbury; and two sisters-in-law, Wilma Bahl and Mary Bahl, both of Dubuque.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Kim Terese Bahl; two brothers, Robert J. Bahl and James P. Bahl; and two brothers-in-law, Lester Camfield and Joseph Temple.

In lieu of flowers, a David C. Bahl Memorial Fund has been established.

The family would like to thank the staff at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque, Sister Rosalyn Ulfers and John Hansen for their exceptional care and support.
