CASCADE, Iowa - Ione M. Beringer, 87, of 813 Tyler Street, Cascade, died peacefully at 10:30 p.m. Saturday, June 22, 2013, at her home in Cascade, surrounded by her loving family.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 26, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Fillmore, with the Rev. Richard Funke presiding. The homily will be given by Deacon Joseph Schockemoehl. (Change of services facility is due to the renovation of St. Martin's Church). Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Cascade. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Reiff Funeral Home, Cascade, where a wake service will be held at 7:30 p.m.

Ione was born on June 13, 1926, in Cascade, daughter of John M. and Elizabeth (Curtis) Kedley. She received her education in St. Martin's School in Cascade.

On July 25, 1944, she was united in marriage to Arnold A. "Arnie" Beringer at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Cascade. Together they farmed two miles west of Cascade for 48 years on the family farm. He preceded her in death on June 7, 1992.

She later moved to Cascade. In her spare time, she enjoyed working in her flower gardens, baking and playing cards with family and friends. Her greatest love was spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was a member of St. Matthias Parish, the parish resurrection choir, the Cascade Catholic Daughters of the Americas-Our Blessed Mother Court 1926 and the Cascade American Legion Auxiliary. Ione served as a volunteer for many organizations, Aquin Elementary School, Shady Rest Care Center, the Cascade Legion Auxiliary, the Cascade Senior Citizens, and she also delivered meals on wheels to many Cascade citizens. In 1996, Ione received the Volunteer Award from the governor of Iowa.

Surviving are three children, Dave (Arlene) Beringer, of Sherrill, Carol (Pat) Coohey of Asbury, and Joe (Jenny) Beringer, of Cascade; eight grandchildren, Mark (Jodi) Beringer, Tammy (Chico) Klein, Angie (Tracey) Potts, Steve Beringer, Brian Coohey, Kayla (Ben) Wilson, Andy Beringer and a special granddaughter-in-law, Jackie (Troy) Leibold; great-grandchildren, Courtney, Vanessa and Karissa Beringer, Allison and Anna Klein, Omari and Drake Potts; stepgreat-grandchildren, Tracey Jr. and Jaylon Potts, Will Coohey and Lauren Leibold, Isabella and Clara Ione Wilson; a sister, Imelda (Bill) Beringer, of Cascade; four sisters-in-law, Bernice Beringer, of Farley, Odie Boffeli, of Cascade, Tecie (Jim) Lehman, of Iowa City, and Edith Kedley, of Dubuque; and many nieces and nephews.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Kevin Coohey; six brothers, Paul (Hilda) Kedley, Leonard, in infancy,

Orville Kedley, Donald Kedley, Curtis (Mae) Kedley and Orland Kedley; and two sisters, Melba (Nick) Bertling and Carmelita (Marcellus) Westemeier; a brother-in-law, Eldon "Pete" Boffeli; and two foster sons, Joe Westemeier and Jerry Westemeier .

In lieu of flowers, a memorial may be given to
St. Matthias Parish in Ione's name.
