CASCADE, Iowa - Orland I. Besler, 80, 500 Buchanan St. S.W., Cascade, died at 1:50 p.m. Tuesday, July 21, 1998, at the Dubuque Nursing and Rehab Center.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Cascade. Burial will be in the St. Mary's Cemetery, Cascade, where military rites will be accorded by the Cascade American Legion Post 528. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. today at Reiff Funeral Home, Cascade, where there will be a wake service at 7 p.m., and a Knights of Columbus rosary at 7:30 p.m.

Mr. Besler owned and operated Besler Ready Mix and Besler Construction Co., of Cascade. He sold Besler Ready Mix in 1970 and continued to run the construction company until 1983.

He was born on Nov. 21, 1917, in Cascade, son of Paul and Helen (Merfeld) Besler.

Orland received his education in the former St. Mary's School in Cascade. He was a World War II Army veteran, having served in the infantry. Orland was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a member of St. Matthias Parish, Cascade, the Knights of Columbus Council 930, of Cascade, the 4th Degree Dubourg Assembly Council 1573, and the Cascade American Legion Post 528.

Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Ray (Irene) Takes, of Cascade, and Mrs. Herb (Helen) Schutt, of Las Vegas, Nev.; three brothers, Edward Besler, of Las Vegas, Reynold Besler, of Davenport, Iowa, and Paul Besler, of Fallon, Nev.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Urbain Besler in infancy, and Urbain Besler and Herbert Besler; two sisters, Germaine Besler and Della Johnson.

Memorials may be given to Camp Courageous, Monticello, in Orland's name.
