Gladys Carbine, 94, of Luther Manor Nursing & Retirement Center, formerly of 290 Roland St., died at 3 a.m. Tuesday, June 22, 1999, at Luther Manor.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home, 2659 Kennedy Road, with burial in Center Grove Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

She was born on Aug. 14, 1904, in Georgetown, Wis., daughter of Franklin and Emma (Curtis) Varker. She married James W. Carbine on June 30, 1928, in Dubuque; he died in 1986.

She lived most of her young life in Epworth, Iowa, and moved to Dubuque in 1928. She was a member of Summit Congregational United Church of Christ and was a past member of the Dubuque Boat Club.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Melvin (Jean) Lindenberg, of Dubuque; and a granddaughter, Lori Jean, of Dubuque.

She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Lula (Henry) Streif, Belle (William) Appel, and Lauretta (John) Launspach.

Memorials may be given to Summit United Church of Christ.

The family would like to thank the staff of Luther Manor for the kind and loving care that was given to Gladys during the past nine years that she had been a resident.
