William Barton Brown, 32, of Madison, Wis., died Thursday, Jan. 7, 2010, in Dubuque.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 11, at Nativity Catholic Church, 1225 Alta Vista St. with the Very Rev. Dwayne J. Thoman officiating. Private burial will be in Center Grove Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. today at Hoffman-Schneider Funeral Home, 3860 Asbury Road, where there will be a wake service at 6:30 p.m.

He was born on Oct. 24, 1977, in Dubuque, son of Ellen (Gallogly) Brown and Barton Paul Brown. He was a student at Madison Area Technical College, majoring in business administration, where he was named to the dean's honor list. He was employed at Vintage Brewery & Pub.

William was always an avid enthusiast of water sports. An expert swimmer for the YMCA, his former team still holds top championships in state-wide competition. An outstanding water-skier, he enjoyed "barefooting" and was invited to participate as a guest in the Hodag Water Show while vacationing in Rhinelander, Wis. William enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his children Riley and Brody.

Surviving are his daughter, Riley Anne (7); his son, Brody Barton (18 months); fiancee Nichole Weber; parents, Ellen and Barton Brown; a sister, Adrienne (Christopher) Waller Chan, a nephew, Andrew Lawrence Chan and a niece, Catherine Spensley Chan, all of Chicago; his aunts and uncles, Dr. Robert and Pati Gallogly, Deborah (Mark Watt) McLees, Nancy (Thomas) Fritz and David (Bonnie) Brown; and numerous cousins.
