Troy Eric Akins, 39, of Sun Prairie Wis., formerly of Dubuque, died Sunday, April 5, 2009, at St. Mary's Hospital, Madison, Wis., following a short illness.

Due to holy week, a prayer and blessing service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 9, at St. Raphael Cathedral, with Monsignor Wayne Ressler officiating. Burial will be in Center Grove Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, where there will be a wake service at 3:30 p.m.

He was born on Feb. 3, 1970, in Dubuque, son of Eric and Kathy Akins. He graduated from Dubuque Senior High School in 1988.

He formerly worked for Truck Country of Iowa in Dubuque, and was currently working for Premier Mortgage Specialist in Sun Prairie.

He enjoyed ice hockey and camping. Troy's passion in life was his three daughters and family. He was a very kind person, and his last act of kindness was being an eye, organ and tissue donor; his legacy will be living on in others.

Surviving are three daughters, Emma and Ellie, both of Dubuque, and Isabel, of Clinton, Iowa; his partner in life, Jolene Clark Duggan, of Sun Prairie; his parents, Eric and Kathy Akins, of Dubuque; special friends, Rachel and Ryan Clark, of Sun Prairie; his sister, Jennifer (Mark Ekeler) Akins; nephews and niece, Hunter, Kegan and Grace, who also was his godchild, all of Lincoln, Neb.; 14 aunts and uncles; 15 cousins; and many extended family, friends and coworkers.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ken and Rosemary Kramer, and Jennibelle Myers.
