OLD SETTLER LAID TO REST

The funeral of Mrs. Joseph Cox, was held Sunday afternoon, from her late residence near Peosta. Services were conducted at the home by Rev. J. R. A. Hanley, of Epworth Methodist church and a quartette under the direction of Professor Crain of the seminary furnished the music. There was a very large attendance of old friends at the services and at the interment, which took place in the Peosta cemetery.

Mrs. Cox, whose maiden name was Charlotte Hill, was born in 1826, in Bristol, England. In 1851 she was united in marriage with Joseph Cox and the couple immediately sailed for America settling in Dubuque county, where Peosta now is. For fifty-five years she had lived in that vicinity and was one of its best known and most highly esteemed residents. In early life she became a member of the Church of England and was a faithful follower of Christ all her long and useful life. Her husband, the late Joseph Cox, died July 10, 1901. Ten children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Cox, three of whom had preceded her to the grave. Surviving are Joseph and Lizzie, who reside on the homestead, Thomas of Rochester, Minnesota, Mrs. Jennie Patrick of Dubuque, Mrs. Lottie Finch of Manchester and Frank and Louis residing near Peosta. There are also fifteen grand-children, who with her sons and daughters mourn her loss.
