Thomas E. Frith, aged 93 years, a prominent pioneer, died at his residence, 211 Washington street, at 1 o'clock Thursday morning, death resulting from a stroke of paralysis with which he was stricken a few hours before.

Mr. Firth was unusually active for one of his years, and was in his usual health Wednesday evening when he was seized with paralysis at 9 o'clock lapsing into unconsciousness, from which he never rallied.

Mr. Frith was born in Chatham Kent, London, January 9, 1815, coming to America in 1841 and locating in New York. In 1857 he came to Dubuque and for half a century had made this city his home, taking an active interest in its advancement. For many years he was engaged in the butcher business and later served several terms as marketmaster.

His genial manner and upright dealings made him a friend of all classes, who regret that a life so honorable has come to an end. Mr. Frith's wife preceded him in death February 21, 1882. Eight children were born to them, Mrs. Sarah E. Deggendorf, Mrs. Amelia Woodward, and Thomas Frith, who have passed away and E. E. Williams, Nelson, Thomas and Martha, who survived him. He is also survived by several grandchildren. Mr. Frith was a member of Harmony Lodge, I. O. O. F., under the auspices of which the funeral will be held.
