Dubuque Daily Times-Journal, Jan. 18, 1907

Peter Gregory, an octogenarian and a resident of 421 Oak street, died alone and while he slept. His lifeless body was found Friday morning at 9 o'clock by M. Roddy, a resident of Oak street and a neighbor of Gregory's. An inquest will be held at the office of Coroner Ryan on West Locust street and a post mortem examination will be held to officially determine the cause of the aged man's death. He was 80 years old and has resided alone for a number of years.

Gregory was in his usual good health Thursday evening and talked with his neighbors until after supper. After 7 o'clock he was not seen by his neighbors. Contained in a drawer of a small table near the bed in which Gregory lay was a small box containing a quantity of white powder. Whether it is of a poisonous nature or not has not been determined, but it is not thought to have any bearing on the aged man's death. An examination however, of the powder will be made by a chemist.

Gregory was a pioneer citizen of Dubuque and probably one of the oldest miners in the Iowa district. His wife died many years ago.. Surviving him are two sons, both of whom reside away from Dubuque and one daughter, Mrs. Robson, a resident of Dodge street and at whose home the body will be taken to from Bennett's undertaking rooms, where it was brought after being found.
