William Irwin Drops Dead In
His Yard Yesterday
~
One of Dubuque’s well known residents passed away very suddenly yesterday morning. William A. Irwin, Sr., of 201 Cleveland Avenue, dropped dead about 9 o’clock at his home. He had been down town the day before and was apparently in good health. Yesterday morning, however, he complained of a pain, a “hitch” he called it, in his left side. He followed his son out to the barn to cut some wood against the protest of his wife and son. He insisted on going, saying, that the exercise would take the “hitch” out of his side. He was about to commence work when his son saw him stagger and caught him before he fell. A physician was summoned in haste, but death resulted in a very few minutes. The physician pronounced it heart disease. He had a similar attack about two years ago near the gas house. Coroner McDonald was notified, but on investigation he found it unnecessary to hold an inquest. Deceased was about 60 years of age and had been a resident of this city for thirty five years. He was employed at the old Ryan Packing House for many years and was highly respected by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife and three sons, Wm. A., Frank J. and A. R.
