FARLEY, Iowa - LuVerne M. Ries, 75, 302 Third Ave. S.W., Farley, died at 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 14, 1997, at home.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Farley, with burial in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. today at Reiff Funeral Home, Farley, where there will be a St. Joseph's Parish rosary at 4 p.m., the Farley Volunteer Fire Department will meet at 7 p.m. and there will be a wake service at 8 p.m.

Mr. Ries was a factory worker until his retirement.

He was born on March 22, 1922, in Dyersville, son of Anthony P. and Gertrude M. (Lucas) Ries. He married Madaline Allen on March 4, 1946, at Holy Cross (Iowa) Catholic Church.

He received his education in the Holy Cross area schools. He was a retired member of the Farley Volunteer Fire Department and was a member of St. Joseph's Parish in Farley.

Surviving are his wife, Madaline Ries, of Farley; three sons, Loras (Phyllis "Kitty") Ries, of Farley, Tom (Ellen) Ries, of Epworth, and Vernon (Darcie) Ries, of Dubuque; two daughters, Sue Ann Garrels, of Clinton, and Andrea (Fred) Steffensmeier, of Farley; and nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, LeRoy Ries, on June 16, 1954; a grandson, Robert; his parents; and a brother, Harold Ries.

A LuVerne M. Ries Memorial Fund has been established.
