FARLEY, Iowa - Mrs. Loras (Betty "Kitty") Ries, 47, 104 First Ave. S.W., Farley, died at 2:45 p.m. Thursday, July 10, 1997, as the result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident on I-75, near Jellico, Tenn.

Private services and visitation will be Tuesday at Reiff Funeral Home, Farley. Private burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Farley.

Mrs. Ries was employed at the Ertl Toy Co. in Dyersville.

She was born on Aug. 20, 1949, in Maryville, Tenn., daughter of Thomas and Thelma (Wicks) Word. She married Loras Ries on Feb. 9, 1973, at Epworth United Methodist Church.

She was a member of the United Auto Workers Local 1982, and served as its recording secretary for 18 years. She loved bowling, fishing, and spending time with her grandchildren, family and friends.

Surviving are her husband, Loras Ries, of Farley; her daughter, Mecalle (James) Williams, of Dyersville; four grandchildren; her mother, Thelma Word, of Peru, Ind.; and her sisters, Susan Lawson and Reba Armfield, both of Kokomo, Ind.

She was preceded in death by her father, Thomas Word; and her brother, Calvin Word.

A Betty Ries Memorial Fund has been established.
