FARLEY, Iowa -- Joseph C. "Big Joe" Oberfoell, 78, of 306 Fifth St. N.W., Farley, went to be with his family in heaven at 12:45 p.m. Monday, Sept. 7, 2009, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 11, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Farley, with the Rev. Dennis Cain officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Farley. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, at Reiff Funeral Home, Farley, where there will be a wake service at 4 p.m.

He was born on Feb. 18, 1931, in Bankston, son of Clarence and Marie (Greenwood) Oberfoell. He received his education in the rural country schools.

He married Darlene Mary Dyer on Nov. 20, 1965, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Dubuque.

Joe was employed with the Dubuque County Highway Department for more than 20 years, during which time he was a member of the Teamsters Union.

He was a member of St. Joseph's Parish in Farley and the Farley Senior Citizens.

Joe greatly enjoyed woodworking and built the house his family lived in for more than 40 years. We could ask Dad to build anything from wood and he could do it. He loved his garden and anything outside. He adored his little puppy, "Teddi Jo," who was his little buddy.

Surviving are his wife, Darlene Oberfoell, of Farley; four children, Clarence, Anna, Rita and Marie Oberfoell; and a sister, Mary Ann (Dale) Bishop, of Cedar Rapids.

He is preceded in death by his parents; a twin sister in infancy; two brothers, Louis and Cyril; his paternal grandparents, Albert and Margaret (Rauen) Oberfoell; and his maternal grandparents, Joseph H. and Amelia (Wall) Greenwood.
