Telegraph Herald (Dubuque, IA) - Tuesday, July 22, 2014

FARLEY, Iowa - Bernard A. Mausser, 96, of Farley, died Sunday, July 20, 2014, at Shady Rest Care Center, Cascade.

Friends and relatives of Bernard may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 23, at Reiff Funeral Home in Farley, where a wake service will be held at 4:30 p.m., and a Knights of Columbus Rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Services for Bernard will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 24, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Farley, with the Rev. Michael Schueller officiating. Burial will be held in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Farley.

He was born Feb. 4, 1918, in Bankston, son of Fred and Johanna (Stritzel) Mausser. He received his education in the Bankston and Epworth area rural schools. On Oct. 28, 1950, he was united in marriage to Mary Agnes Breen at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Farley; she preceded him in death on July 8, 2002. The couple farmed in the rural Farley area until their retirement.

Bernard loved his family and enjoyed the many get-togethers on birthdays and holidays. He could fix anything. He had a wonderful sense of humor and a memory that was sharp until the end. He would often recall many stories about his parents, who emigrated from Austria, and his siblings.

Besides Mary Agnes and his children, Bernard's other love was his 1949 Ford 8N tractor, which he purchased new and remained the sole owner. He restored it and for many years participated in parades and tractor rides throughout the area. His most recent was the Farley Parade on July 13th, a week before he died. His family and many friends were on hand to see him ride. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and fished many times with his grandsons, Craig and Eric. Baseball was his favorite sport and the Cubs were his favorite team. However, Cubs' managers and pitching coaches were not among his favorites. Bernard loved to play euchre and cribbage and did so until the end. He also enjoyed music, making wine and a good cigar. We'll miss you, Pops!

He was a member of St. Joseph's Parish in Farley and its altar and rosary society.

He is survived by his five children, Wayne (Linda) Mausser, of Oshkosh, Wis., Dennis Mausser, of Farley, Lynne (Ken) Willenborg, of Colesburg, Alan Mausser, of Farley, and Mike (Michelle) Mausser, of Steamboat Rock; six grandchildren, Craig, Eric Willenborg and Jenna (Brian) Deutmeyer, Madyson, Samual and Lucas Mausser; and a great-grandson, Braden Deutmeyer; and a sister, Rita Callahan, of Epworth.

He also was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter, Lisa Mausser, in 1959; two sisters, Emma Mausser and Betty McDermott; and four brothers, Bill, Joe, Clem and Henry Mausser.

Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.reifffuneralhomeinc.com.

The family would like to thank Shady Rest Care Center and Hospice of Dubuque for their care and compassion given to Bernard.
