(April 1, 1957 - February 23, 2015)

Penny Schissel, 57, of Dubuque, passed away unexpectedly Monday, February 23, 2015, of complications from a brain aneurysm, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 28, at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Rev. Alan Dietzenbach will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Friends may greet the family from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, February 27, at Hoffmann Schneider Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 1640 Main St., Dubuque, where there will be a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.

Penny was born April 1, 1957 in Dubuque, the daughter of Charles and Arlene (Herbst) Chapman. She graduated from Wahlert High School with the class of 1974. She married Thomas Schissel on May 2, 1988 in Dubuque. She was a longtime member of St. Patrick Catholic Church.

Penny earned her LPN from NICC, and was employed at Stonehill Care Center, Dubuque, Nursing & Rehab, and several other local nursing homes before entering into the field of home health care.

She enjoyed shopping and taking care of her dog, Neon. Penny loved spending time at her cottage in East Dubuque with her family, where she enjoyed fishing, boating, playing horseshoes, and had many bonfires. She was a compassionate, caring person who dearly loved her family. She will be deeply missed by her husband, her three sons, and all who knew and loved her.

Penny is survived by her husband, Tom, of Dubuque; three sons, Dustin Scott of Dubuque, Adam Schissel of Hudson, FL, and Chad Schissel of Dubuque; four grandchildren, Morgan, Presley, Haley, and Charlie; her siblings, Deborah Chapman of Sun City, AZ, Patricia (Jon) Numedahl of Decorah, IA, Kathy Jo (Wade) Hayward, and Daniel (Mary) Chapman, both of Dubuque, and Michael (Sandra) Chapman of East Dubuque, IL; her mother in law, Sharleen Schissel of Dubuque; and her brothers and sisters in law, Frank (Priscilla) Schissel of Springfield, MA, Jay (Eileen) Schissel of Davenport, IA, and John Schissel, Delane (Steve) Tressel, Lori Schissel, and Jeff Swift, all of Dubuque.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her father in law, Vern Schissel; and her sister in law, Peggy Swift.

Memorials may be made to the Penny Schissel Memorial Fund.
