Donald F. Cain, 80, of Dubuque, passed away on Thursday, March 20, 2014, at Heritage Manor after a long illness.

According to his wishes, there will be no public visitation or services. Leonard Funeral Home and Crematory 2595 Rockdale Road, is in charge of arrangements.

Don was born on June 9, 1933. He served as a staff sergeant in the Air Force during the Korean War.

He retired from A.Y. McDonald, where he worked as an electrician.

Don was a talented musician, capable of playing both the lead and steel guitar. He and his wife, Sally, attended the annual Scotty's Steel Guitar Convention in St. Louis, where he honed his skill on the steel guitar and where he and Sally met and became very close friends with Ted and Vickie Newman. Donnie "Dad" played in a country western band with his close friends Ray Theisen, Dick McGrane and Nutsy Turtle. Sally and the other wives (Doris, Carol and Patty) spent many hours dancing to the music played by their husbands. Another of his hobbies included the restoration of antique automobiles. He enjoyed going to car shows and swap meets where he would search for the parts needed for his project cars. Donnie and Sally made many good friends over the 57 years they were married. The great times and the special friends will never be forgotten.

Donnie is survived by his wife, Sally; eight children; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
