FARLEY, Iowa -- James T. Konzen, 84, of 205 Third Ave. NE, Farley, died at 2 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 12, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 16, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Farley, with the Rev. Dennis Cain officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Farley, where military rites will be accorded by the Farley American Legion Post 656. Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 15, at Reiff Funeral Home, Farley, where there will be a wake service at 4 p.m. and a Farley American Legion and Auxiliary Service at 7 p.m. Friends also may call after 9 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.

He was born on July 23, 1926, in Peosta, son of Frank and Elizabeth (Neumann) Konzen. He was a graduate of St. Joseph's High School, Farley.

He married Lois O'Meara on Feb. 24, 1954, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Farley.

Jim was an Army veteran, having served in the Korean War.

He was employed as a janitor at St. Joseph's school for 20 years.

Jim enjoyed fishing, baseball, yard work and was an avid White Sox fan. He also was very proud of his 1974 orange VW.

He was very active in the community, he was a Boy Scout leader, Babe Ruth and Junior League coach, a lifelong member of the Farley American Legion and a member of St. Joseph's Parish in Farley.

Surviving are his wife, Lois Konzen, of Farley; six children, Larry (Pat) O'Meara, of Colesburg, Jerry (Lynn) Konzen, of Farley, Ray (Millie) Konzen, of Albuquerque, N.M., Steve "Matt" Konzen and Judy (David) Trenkamp, both of Farley, and Jane (Kenneth) Bolsinger, of Colesburg; 14 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; five siblings, Ardell (Carl) Craugh, of Platteville, Wis., Frank (Lois) Konzen, of Farley, Fred (Elaine) Konzen and Lloyd Konzen, both of Dyersville, and Mary (Elmer) Robey, of Belle Vista, Ark.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, in infancy; a brother, Clarence Konzen; a brother-in-law, Elmer Robey; two sisters-in-law, Mary Konzen and Mary Hartman; and two great-grandchildren, Claire and Colton Konzen.
