Leona R. Koenig, 89, of ManorCare Health Service, formerly of Farley, Iowa, died at 2:25 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9, 1998, at ManorCare.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Farley, with burial in the church cemetery.

Friends may call from 3 to 9 p.m. today, at Reiff Funeral Home, Farley, where there will be a St. Joseph's Parish Rosary at 4 p.m. and a wake service at 7:30 p.m.

Mrs. Koenig was born on March 28, 1909, in New Vienna, Iowa, daughter of John and Mary (Wenler) Schuster. She married Sylvester "Mike" Koenig on Nov. 23, 1939, at St. Boniface Catholic Church, New Vienna; he died on Dec. 17, 1991.

She received her education in the New Vienna schools.

She was a member of St. Joseph's Parish, Farley, and its Altar and Rosary Society.

She enjoyed her family, especially her children and grandchildren.

Leona also enjoyed spending time working in her flower garden.

Surviving are a daughter, Betty (Dennis) Miller, of Dubuque; a son, Tom (Nancy) Koenig, of Prairie du Chien, Wis.; 11 grandchildren; 13 great children; three brothers, Ray (Shirley) Schuster, of Dubuque, Bob (Norma) Schuster, of Marion, Iowa, and Melvin (Rita) Schuster, of Key West, Iowa; two sisters, Germaine (Emmett "Butch") Friedman, and Armella (Ed) Kern, both of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and a sister-in-law, Germaine Schuster, of Dyersville.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; a grandchild, Douglas Miller, in 1969; two sisters, Florence and Irene; and two brothers, Arnold and Elmer.

A Leona R. Koenig Memorial Fund has been established.
